MOST LOVED SUPERBIKE - BMW S1000RR
BMW S1000RR
BMW S1000RR |
One of the most liked superbikes, the BMW S1000RR got BMW
back in the best superbikes list. The S1000RR was originally made by BMW
Motorrad for Superbike World Championship in 2009. It was introduced in Munich in April 2008, and
was powered by a 999 cc inline-4 engine redlined at 14,200 rpm. Seeing its huge
success, the commercial production was started in 2010. The BMW S 1000 RR led
to a revolution in the sport superbikes category right from the outset.
Thereafter, the bike continued to be developed, its tried and tested concept
being honed even further and the latest technology added. One constant factor
remained throughout, however, - the RR's impressive power curve and, in terms
of performance, it is still a trailblazer today.
PERFORMANCE
The S 1000 RR’s liquid-cooled 999cc four-cylinder in-line
engine is capable of producing 199 bhp and a maximum torque of 113 Nm. The Power is
delivered through a straight-toothed constant-mesh 6-speed gearbox transmission.
The 0-100 kmph time of S1000RR is only 2.6 seconds. It is capable of reaching
303 kmph. This bike has got 320 mm diameter and 5 mm thick floating twin disc
brakes with 4-piston fixed callipers at front and 220 mm diameter and 5 mm
thick single disk brake with single-piston floating calliper at rear. The
suspension system includes a 46mm diameter upside-down telescopic fork with
adjustable compression and rebound stage at front and an aluminium 2-sided
swing arm with adjustable high and low speed and compression and rebound damping
at rear. It has two modes for roads and two for sportier riding experience(Rain,
Sport, Race and Slick). The three riding modes "Rain",
"Sport" and "Race" ensure optimal coordination of electric
throttle, ABS and ASC, even in changing conditions. Now the S 1000 RR comes with DTC- Dynamic
Traction Control as standard for even greater riding dynamics and road safety.

DESIGN
The S1000RR’s sheer power becomes obvious when you look at it’s
design. From the asymmetrically designed split face, the long engine spoiler
and the dynamically designed tail section: each element of its shape seems
defined by radical speed and expresses an unmistakable urge for forward
propulsion. It features a large central air intake, sporty gills, nicely
positioned handlebar and wide tapered foot pegs, an aluminium composite bridge
frame with a partially self-supporting engine, 17-inch cast-aluminium alloy
wheels with tubeless radial tires, a beautiful tail light, sporty split seat, a
HP Gearshift Assistance for full-power clutch less up-shifts, innovative and
high performance 4-2-1 exhaust system and many other minute features to make it
a formidable competitor. It also has a multifunction instrument cluster with a
new dial design, a dimmable LCD, an analogue engine speed indicator, displayed
details can be selected and viewed through two buttons at left and right grips,
engine speed in thousand rpm, a speed warning indicator with shift lamp lights
up and word SPEED appeared in the fault field, a Best Lap in Progress function,
four modes (Rain, Sport, Race and Slick) and backlighting with five levels. The
S1000RR weighs only 407 kgs. The BMW S1000RR was featured in Tom Cruise’s 2015
movie Mission Impossible : Rogue Nation.

HP4 (2013 –
2014)
When light weight, massive power and razor-sharp handling
are combined, the result is known as HP (High Performance). The new HP4 is BMW
Motorrad's first 4-cylinder model to wear the HP badge. HP4 is based on the S 1000RR. HP4 is faster, lighter
and more advanced than ever before. The lightest 4-cylinder engine in the
segment provides uncompromising power with an output of 193 bhp. The new
exhaust silencer provides a higher level of torque in the mid-range, so there
is power available where it's needed most to deliver stunning lap times. With
the world's first ever dynamic suspension system DDC (Dynamic Damping Control),
the HP4 is the most advanced production sporting motorcycle ever built. DDC
automatically adapts the suspension damping to the situation at hand. Various
modes are available to choose from: Rain and Sport for public roads, Race and
Slick for the race track. HP4 is $5,836 more expensive at $20,835 than standard
S1000RR.

ISLE OF MAN
TT
The S1000RR has been used by various riders at the Isle of
Man TT since 2010. On 31 May 2014, Michael Dunlop won the superbike class race
on his factory-prepared bike entered by Hawk Racing, a UK-based BSB team
operating as Buildbase BMW Motorrad, breaking a 75-year gap between wins for
BMW. Three days later, Dunlop repeated his victory in the Superstock class,
running under his own MD Racing BMW banner. He stated "...this is a great
result for BMW. It’s great for a manufacturer when a road bike wins a TT”.
Dunlop completed a hat-trick of BMW victories with a Senior TT win on Friday, 6
June.
