THE REAL GT - FORD GT (2005)

FORD GT (First Generation) (2005 -2006)

Ford GT

The legendary Ford GT recalls the history of Ford GT40. The GT derives it’s roots from the four times consecutive Le mans winner (1966 – 1969) GT40 which made history by beating consecutive european winners after so many years. GT40 that won Le Mans in 1967 is the only car designed and built entirely in the United States to achieve the overall win at Le Mans. Like it’s ancestor, the GT was also a record breaker in it’s time. It was once in the list of fastest production cars. GT was the fastest American car in 2005.

PERFORMANCE

The Ford GT is a  high-performance, mid-engine, two seat sports car with an aluminum space frame chassis, aluminum body panels and a contemporary interior. The GT runs on a 5.4-liter version of the supercharged 32-valve DOHC V-8 from the SVT Mustang Cobra fitted with dry-sump lubrication which churns out 550 bhp and  678 Nm of torque. The power is delivered through a traditional 6-speed manual transmission. GT recorded a 0-100 kmph time of 3.4 seconds and it is capable of reaching 330 kmph.  The Ford GT featured many technologies which were new and unique in it’s time, including superplastic-formed frame, aluminum body panels, roll-bonded floor panels, a friction stir welded center tunnel, covered by a magnesium center console, a "ship-in-a-bottle" gas tank, a capless fuel filler system, one-piece door panels, and an aluminum engine cover with a one-piece carbon fiber inner panel. Suspension consists of Independent double wishbones, coil springs, tube shocks and Stabilizer Bar. It has  14.0 in. cross-drilled & vented disc, four-piston monoblock calipers in front and  13.2 in. cross-drilled & vented disc, four-piston monoblock calipers at rear. It also features a Four sensor, four-wheel ABS system linked to electronic brake force distribution.

DESIGN

Finally, the bodywork, while being fairly faithful to the GT40 Mark I-inspired lines of the mid-'60s Le Mans racers, was made from fiberglass rather than aluminum and missing most key aerodynamic details. Ford promises that the production car, with its front lip spoiler, flat bottom, and rear tunnels, will generate more downforce than the Ferrari Modena.
