LEXUS LFA
LEXUS LFA
Lexus LFA |
The world’s largest car maker Toyota built Lexus to compete
with other high end luxury carmaker like Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar. Now, Lexus
is one of the highest selling high-end marks in the world. But in it’s 20
years’ career, Lexus never made something like LFA. Lexus is known for it’s
quiet, efficient and luxury cars. But LFA is a total new direction – It is
Loud, Aggressive and very fast. A car like nothing Lexus has ever produced. The
Lexus LFA is a two-seat sports car. It is the second model in the F marque line
of performance vehicles from Lexus, following the IS F. A special assembly
plant is given to Lexus for LFA by it’s parent company Toyota in Toyota City. A
group of 175 skilled workers build LFA. Like many other supercars, LFA is also
made with Carbon-fibre. The body of LFA is 65% Carbon-fibre. The car just
weighs 1400 kgs. The LFA is fabulously aerodynamic. Although LFA does not have
front grills to cool it down, instead, it has two radiators behind the rear
wheel. The air to those radiator is served via a big vent on each side on cars
shoulders. Did you all know?, Yamaha worked with Toyota for almost 50 years to
make fast and light weight engine. The first result of this collaboration was
the legendary Toyota 2000 GT, so is the LFA. They have made a naturally
aspirated V10 as compact as a traditional Lexus V8 engine with weight of a V6!
– wonderful. They had to do this because of the compact space in LFA. It takes
2 and a half day to build one engine. Yamaha helped in getting an Formula 1 car
like sound for LFA. LFA also has an Nurburgring version which set the record of
5th fastest lap time ever.
PERFORMANCE
The Lexus LFA is powered by a 72-degree bank angle 4.8-liter
V10 engine equipped with dual VVT-i carrying the 1LR-GUE designation with a
maximum output of 552 bhp. The engine is constructed using forged aluminum
pistons, forged titanium connecting rods, and solid titanium valves. The
V-angle of the LFA's V-10 engine is set to 72-degrees (as opposed to the
90-degree V angle present in a Dodge Viper's V-10) to fully balance the firing
force from the pistons. The powerplant gives the LFA a weight-to-power ratio of
5.9 lb/hp and enables it to reach a top speed of around 325 kmph. It is capable
of reaching from 0-100 kmph in just 3.6 seconds. The power is delivered through
a six-speed automated sequential gearbox (electrohydraulic transmission)
operated with paddle-shifters. The LFA further features six-piston front and
four-piston rear Brembo monobloc brake calipers with 390 mm front and 360 mm in
rear carbon ceramic discs controlled by Toyota's Electronically Controlled
Brake brake-by-wire system. Forged 20-inch BBS wheels fitted with 265 mm front
and 305 mm rear Bridgestone next-generation Potenza tires are standard. The LFA
is equipped with a three-mode Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM)
stability control system with Sport setting. The LFA's speed-sensitive rear
wing incorporates a Gurney flap and deploys at speeds over 80 kmmh. With the wing
retracted the LFA's body has a drag coefficient of 0.31.
INTERIOR
The LFA interior incorporates carbon fiber, leather,
alcantara, and metallic surfaces. It has supportive bucket seats for the driver
and passenger that are both equipped with seatbelt airbags. The sporty steering
wheel has a side-mounted start button and paddle shifters. Lexus’ Remote touch
Interface is mounted in the center so the driver has easy control options at
their fingertips. And a 12-speaker Mark Levinson audio system generates crisp
high quality sound throughout the cabin. The sleek interior is dressed in
either sleek white or slick red, giving it a distinctly modern appearance
that’s enhanced by metallic trims and accents. The leather is completely hand stitched!.

NURBURGRING PACKAGE
Lexus has also made a circuit-tuned variant of the LFA. The variant
is officially known as the LFA NĂĽrburgring Package in reference to the similar
setup employed on the LFA race vehicles at the 24 Hours NĂĽrburgring. The
package features an extra 11 bhp from its V10 engine, bringing the total to 563
bhp. It also features a re-calibrated transmission with gear shifts made faster
by 0.05 seconds, a front splitter, stiffer and more adjustable suspension,
lightweight alloy wheels coated in track rubber, aerodynamic canards at the
sides of the front bumper, and a large fixed rear wing. This Package was US$
70,000 costlier than the standard version.
